Sherburne Road Eagle Scout Projects!

SUPERVISOR’S REPORT - June

Have you noticed the beautiful addition of flower boxes that line the streets of the hamlet?   Richard Carley III, of Boy Scout troop 113, built these planters as an Eagle Project.  Richard, with the help of other scouts from the troop and local businesses has done a wonderful service to the town.  Thank you to Richard and his fellow scouts!  If any of the homeowners who live near a box would like to take on the task of watering the flowers during the hot, dry days of summer please feel free.  Thank you in advance for your efforts.

Stephen Lane of Boy Scout Troop 167, as his eagle project, has built a sign for the entrance of the Sherburne road park.  Another attractive addition to the town with lovely flowers at it’s base. Thank you to Stephen and his fellow scouts for a job well done.

A correction on the Eagle Scout projects…The sign at Sherburne Rd Park was done by Michael Lane, not Stephen.  Sorry about that Michael.  Wonderful job on the sign.   Stephen has just finished up his Eagle project  also in Sherburne Rd Park.  He built a bridge over the culvert on one of the nature trails.  Thank you to both Michael and Stephen.

Quite often the Boy Scouts come to the town looking for a project to do.  If you have any ideas on projects please drop me a line (rplant@rochester.rr.com) with your thoughts.

We have a new roof on the Town Hall.  Finally, we won’t have to worry about leaks in the town offices due to shingles blown off as a result of the high winds we get on the hill.
The old roof was 16 years old and hopefully this new roof will be good for another 30 years.

PLEASE NOTE:  The Festival in the Park will be held in August this year.  For those of you who are used to the July Festival, please remember that it will be held on August 22nd , Friday and August 23rd , Saturday.  The parade will be Friday night and the fireworks will be on Saturday night.

With the price of gas continuing to go up, many people are staying closer to home this summer.  Don’t forget all the activities that are available from the Recreation Department for adults, as well as children.  Activities are listed in the Town Topics.  If you don’t find your copy, more are available at the Town Hall.

At the county level:  The Board of Supervisors is trying to decide what to do with the old nursing home.  We need to decide what departments will be moved to the building and how much it will cost.

The next Wayne County Board meeting will be held in the evening.  It will be on June 17th at 7 pm.  As usual, it will be at the County Court House at 26 Church Street in Lyons.  We try to hold a few meetings a year in the evening so that folks who work during the day, and have an interest in county politics, can come to meetings if they wish.

The town has a new website address.  It is www.townofwalworthny.gov .  The old address will still work for a while.

Enjoy your summer, it looks like it is finally here.  Drive and play safely.
